Annual Conference
CFP
The Carolina Lowcountry and Atlantic World Program at the College of Charleston and the University of South Carolina will co-host the 56th annual conference of the Consortium on the Revolutionary Era (CRE) May 14-17, 2026. The conference will be held at the College of Charleston campus in the historic center of the city of Charleston.
We are pleased to welcome Kathleen DuVal of the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and Zara Anishanslin of the University of Delaware as our keynote speakers.
For the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, the Consortium invites papers on topics related to American independence and ideas of liberty and freedom in the broader Atlantic World. We encourage papers that examine the events of the Revolution from below, that place American independence in broader, hemispheric, European, or colonial contexts, or that investigate the influence of American independence on later revolutionary movements.
We seek a wide range of presentations, including traditional panels (consisting of three paper presenters and a chair), roundtables, workshops, or lightning sessions devoted to recent scholarship, pedagogy, and professional concerns. Submissions of pre-organized panels and roundtables are strongly encouraged, but we also welcome individual papers from faculty, graduate students, and independent scholars.
Panel and paper proposals must clearly explain their topics and questions in ways that will be understandable to the broad constituents of the CRE, not only to those interested in the specific topics in question.
The CRE publishes Selected Papers with our affiliate Age of Revolutions, an open-access journal with an international scholarly and general readership.
Submission Instructions
Session proposals should include a panel description; a brief abstract for each paper (no more than one page); a brief CV for each participant (no more than two pages); and an indication of AV needs, if any.
